History of Royale Union Saint-Gilloise

Royale Union Saint-Gilloise was founded in 1897 and reached the elite of Belgian football in 1901. The club won several titles in the early years of the 20th century and became the third Belgian team to win the title.

The club was nicknamed 'The Apaches' due to their rough and vulgar playing style. In the 1930s, the club won three consecutive titles and remained unbeaten for 30 matches, a record that still stands.
